Gambling Addiction
HYPNOTHERAPY AND HOW IT CAN HELP WITH GAMBLING WHETHER THAT BE TO THE BOOKIES, ON-LINE OR HOW EVER IT IS CURRENTLY BOTHERING YOU – IT CAN BE STOPPED
Gambling addiction is quickly becoming a massive problem for increasingly more and more people, and with internet it is becoming more and more prevalent with the availability and ease with which one can enjoy a flutter online. Internet gambling whether that involves online poker, horse racing, roulette, or any number of gambling activities is now available 24/7 from the comfort of one’s own home. And also throw in the pop-up-adverts which will catch your subconscious mind. Coupled with this the increasing amount of bookies that are popping up in town centres and in smaller shopping parades it’s hard to escape the lure of potential gambling.
With gambling addiction there will be a root cause and when this is found there will often be a profound change in the person and discovering where the problem began and addressing this is where I would suggest we begin, this will involve working on your unconscious mind. Then it is useful to build in coping strategies and techniques for the future and present. Cognitive hypnotherapy, positive psychology and NLP are all excellent at addressing this and when used in combination are highly effective.

Gambling addiction is a compulsive behaviour, with gambling addictions one may experience a build-up of excitement as the potential of having a flutter arrives, if however the compulsion to gamble has to be deferred (maybe one has an appointment to keep, be at work or to take the kids to school), a build-up of excitement and/or agitation is experienced and often the longer the gambling activity is put off, the more excitement/agitation builds up.
What is happening here is that a mechanism of expectation is building up and then when the time finally arrives to have a gamble, the very peak of excitement is experienced. If one is successful in their gamble and wins, this leads to a chain of thoughts/feelings/believes which reinforce that things are not so bad, and a message ‘If I won that time – perhaps I can win again’ will be triggered.
With gambling it’s not necessarily the ‘winning’ that is the driving urge, but the excitement and expectation of potentially winning. Of course long term ‘winning’ is not a viable belief system because odds are always stacked in the favour of the casino/bookie.
The drive or compulsion for the gambling addiction is not so much about becoming rich from gambling (this very rarely happens) it’s about the feelings involved with the activity this can be intense excitement, anticipation or a buzz. People who are addicted to gambling feel compelled to gamble, it’s as though there was something inside of them and out of their control which in fact is closer to the truth than you may think.
